Gorgons-197980
Scoring system from 1979 & 1980 in our timeline
By Akitaldo
The two F1 seasons 1979 & 1980 used the points system 9-6-4-3-2-1, and like other seasons back then they didn't count every race result in the end. Except that these two seasons didn't follow the same patterns as the 1970s' or the 1980s'. Heck, these two seasons even followed two unique patterns...
In 1979, out of 15 races, they kept the best 8 results... if you explored Tartarus or Eros, you're thinking "Oh great, 8 is just over 7.5, which is 50% of 15."
But no, no, no! In 1979, they kept the 4 best results from the first 7 races, and the best 4 results from the last 8 races... what the heck what the FIA thinking back then?!
So the pattern here could be: just over 50% of the first half of the season, and 50% of the second half. Maybe... but there's only one season, and it's hard to distinguish a pattern with just one piece of data.
Because 1980 is different from 1979. Out of 14 races, only the best 10 results mattered. "Well, excellent Sir, 10 is just over 2/3 of 14, looks just like Cassandra."
But again: no, no, no! Because they split it in two too but with a different pattern: They kept the best 5 results from the first 7 races - first half of the season. And the best 5 results from the second half of the season... So this one could be "just over best 2/3 in the first half, and best 2/3 in the second half"... Maybe...
Another pattern... What am I supposed to do?! It's not like I already had a myriad of parallel universes to explore. Now I also have to fix their coordinates to find them first.
That's why I used Gorgons' names for these two universes: Stheno & Euryale. And I didn't pick the most famous Gorgon - Medusa - because these two universes just follow weird patterns and no one cares anyways.
Needless to say, I haven't explored these two universes yet. And I don't know if I ever will. The patterns aren't clear.
